According to foreign media, Indonesia plans to invest US $4 billion to build a polysilicon industry to promote the production of photovoltaic modules. Polycrystalline silicon is a key material used to manufacture photovoltaic modules, and the price of polycrystalline silicon rose to the highest level in 10 years last year.

Localized production of polysilicon materials will help Indonesia reduce the price of photovoltaic modules and accelerate the deployment of green energy.

Indonesia plans to install about 5.3GW photovoltaic system by 2030. Therefore, the country plans to build several PV module production plants, including a US $800 million PV module production plant located in Batang, central Java Province, which will be put into operation in July 2022, and the annual polysilicon production capacity of the plant is 40000 tons.

Indonesia also plans to invest 3.2 billion dollars to build a second photovoltaic module factory in North Kalimantan, with an annual capacity of 160000 tons. After these production plants are put into operation, they can fully supply photovoltaic modules, thus promoting Indonesia to accelerate the deployment of photovoltaic systems.
