Deep processing refers to further processing of organosilicon to give it more functions and a wider range of applications. In the previous issue, we introduced one of the deep-processed organosilicon products, organosilicon rubber. This time, let's explore a more widely used and diversified product in organosilicon deep processing - silicone oil!

Silicone oil, as a common organosilicon product, has a wide range of applications in cosmetics, lubricants, sealants, and other fields. With excellent high-temperature stability, low-temperature performance, chemical inertness, and biocompatibility, silicone oil holds an important position in both industrial production and civil fields. However, silicone oil itself has certain limitations in use. To expand its application areas and enhance its performance, the application of deep processing technology becomes particularly important. Silicone oil typically refers to liquid organopolysiloxane products at room temperature, which can be linear or branched. The molecular structure is represented as follows:

Introduction to Silicone Oil:

Silicone oil is a linear small molecule organosilicon polymer with a main chain of Si-O-Si and side chains containing organosilicon groups. Silicone oil usually remains in a liquid state at room temperature, with viscosity increasing as the molecular weight increases. Therefore, viscosity is an important physical property index for silicone oil.

Classification of Silicone Oil:

Silicone oil can be divided into primary products and secondary products based on processing methods.

Primary products can be further divided into general silicone oil and modified silicone oil. General silicone oil includes dimethyl silicone oil, methyl hydrogen silicone oil, hydroxyl silicone oil, vinyl silicone oil, and methyl phenyl silicone oil.

Modified silicone oil includes reactive silicone oil and non-reactive silicone oil. Reactive silicone oil includes: amino-modified silicone oil, epoxy-modified silicone oil, carboxyl-modified silicone oil, alcohol-modified silicone oil, methyl acrylate-modified silicone oil, hydrophobic-modified silicone oil, and phenyl-modified silicone oil.

Non-reactive silicone oil includes: polyether-modified silicone oil, methyl styrene-modified silicone oil, high fatty acid ester-modified silicone oil, high alkoxyl-modified silicone oil, high fatty acid-modified silicone oil, and fluorocarbon-modified silicone oil.

Secondary products refer to products processed from silicone oil as raw material, incorporating thickeners, surfactants, solvents, and additives through specific processes to produce greases, solutions, emulsions, etc. These can be classified as silicone grease, mold release agents, defoamers, fiber treatment agents, silicone waxes, polymer additives, etc.

Uses of Silicone Oil:

General silicone oil is mainly used as electrical insulation materials, heat carriers, mold release agents, cosmetics raw materials, brightening agent raw materials, defoamers, industrial lubricants, automotive lubricants, etc. Modified silicone oil is generally used as lubricants, mold release agents, brightening agents, cosmetics raw materials, plastic modifiers, fabric smoothing and softening agents. General silicone oil refers to a widely used type of silicone oil product in industry with good lubricating performance and chemical stability. On the other hand, modified silicone oil is further improved and adjusted to have specific functions and properties that can play a role in a wider range of applications.

Overall, silicone oil as a common organosilicon product has a wide range of applications and an important position in various fields. Through the application of deep processing technology, the types of silicone oil become more diversified, and product performance is further enhanced to meet the needs of different fields. With continuous technological advancements and evolving market demands, it is believed that deep-processed silicone oil products will show broader development prospects in the future, bringing more innovation and convenience to various industries.
