Delphi Develops a New SiC Inverter

Delphi, the famous German company, now is the first company who could produce 800 V SiC inverters with a large quantity. This type of inverters is one of the core components of the next-generation electrical & hybrid cars. The new inverter provides an electrical system which is over 800V. To compare with present 400V system, the new inverter could extend the total driving distance of EVs largely and shorten the charging time to the half.

The new 800V inverter applies advanced SiC MOSFET semi-conductors and signed a 2.7 billion USD project by this new technology with one world’s leading car factory. This project starts in 2022 and the first result is high-efficiency EVs which will run under 800V.

The new SiC materials allow rapid switches and could be applied in higher temperatures. The fast switching feature allows the cars to use more advanced engines to achieve high efficiency and longer driving distance and this is just one of the evident benefits.
