Introduction to Organic Silicone Plastic

Another important organic silicon product is the organic silicone plastic. To add filler like mica powder, asbestos, quartz powder, glass thread fiber or glass cloth to the matter whose basic component is silicone resin, then it could be mould or injected to be plastic parts which is also called organic silicone plastic. They have higher heat resistance, mechanical strength and electrical isolation and they are not affected much by temperature change. It also has waterproof and humidity resistance. Organic silicone plastic could be used to manufacture wire shelf, circuit board, special opens, shells on tablets and devices, and it is widely used in universal navigation, aircraft manufacturing, wireless devices, electrical engineering and other industries.

Organic silicone plastic is not poisoned and not smelly, thus it could be widely used in medical equipment, sealing on electrical devices in electronics, opens of devices, and the heat resisting isolation parts on missiles and airplanes.

It is according to the difference in its formability, organic silicone plastic could be categorized to three subcategories: laminated plastic, molded plastic and foam plastic.

 

Organic Silicone Laminated Plastic

To categorize silicone resin glass cloth laminated board and mica board according to the properties of silicone resins, it could be categorized to the electrical isolation varnish or adhesive; if we it is to be categorized by the final product form, it could be classified as plastic. At present, the most common glass cloth laminated organic silicone plastic could be used in high temperature for a longer time. It has a very low water absorption rate and it has good arc resistance and flame resistance. It could also endure sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide. However, it cannot resist some other solvents like carbon tetrachloride, toluene, acetone and some others. It could be used for slotted wedge insulation of the H-grade electrical engine, the shell of high-temperature replay, radar radome of high-speed aircrafts, circuit board, tubes of transformer, different types of opens and the fire-resisting walls of airplanes.

It is also applicable to take asbestos cloth or asbestos paper to replace glass fiber to make laminated plastics. They are cheap but have lower mechanical strengths. The silicone resins that apply in glass fiber laminated plastics include DC-2103, DC-2104, DC-2105 and others.

Organic silicone laminated plastic could use high-compressing method or low-compressing method to manufacture; vacuum bag laminating could also be used.

 

Organic Silicone Molded Plastic

Organic silicone molded plastic is a thermosetting plastic that to mix organic silicone resin, filler, catalyst, stains, demoulding agent and curing agent together. The common used fillers are glass fiber, asbestos, silicone dioxide, quartz powder, talcum powder and mica. The catalyst could be lead oxide, triethanolamine and the mixture of triethanolamine and benzoyl peroxide. The usual demoulding agent is calcium oleate.

Organic silicone molded plastic is also divided into molding powder and enhanced organic silicone plastic.

Silicone resin pre-shrinkage is the linear polymethilphenylsiloxane that has hydroxyl on the edge of end bases. Its R/Si ratio is from 1.0 to 1.7. The phenyl rakes 30% ~ 90%. When there is catalyst, it will be heated, dehydrated and condensate to form body form structure. To mix silicone resin pre-shrinkage, catalyst and some proper filler like glass fiber, asbestos or diatomite, then to use pump to drain the solvent, then to let the mixture of silicone resin and filler to have solidification for 10 minutes in a higher temperature. Shatter it after cooling down then we could get molding powder. Organic silicone molding powder usually has good inorganic acid resistance but has poor alkaline resistance.

As for the enhanced organic silicone plastic, it is the glass fiber enhanced silicone resin plastic that has the length of some mms. Its basic form is the same as organic molding powder, the differences are in the length and density of fillers. Its forming temperature and time are the same as the molding powders,. To make heat resisting isolation products, it could use shrinkage and transfer molding method.

 

Organic Silicone Foam Plastic

Organic silicone foam plastic is a low density sponge form material that has bubble holes. It could work in high temperature and has flame resistance. It is the excellent material that has the properties like heat resistance, humidity resistance, sound isolation and electrical isolation.

Organic silicone foam plastic could be divided to two types: one type is the powder, it will be foamed in high temperature; another type is the liquid double components which could be foamed in room temperature.

The organic powder foam plastic could endure high temperature, and it could be used to the material that requires heat isolation, sound isolation, flame resistance and electrical isolation. It could be used as the heat isolation protection materials that used in thermal components of jets and missiles. It is widely used in universe navigation, constructions and other industries.

Double component room temperature organic silicone liquid foam is mainly used as the sealing material for heat isolating electronical components. It could be foamed in paper made or aluminum strip made components which have complex shapes. It could be used as the light, high temperature resistance and humidity resistance material for aircrafts or rockets. It could also be used as the filling material of thrusters, wings of airplanes and the cabin of airplanes or the isolation of fire walls.

 

Micronized & Trapezoidal Polymers

These are one of special usages of silicone resin products. The former one is the side product from the process from silicone resin’s solidification process to the powders. To compare with inorganic filler, it has lower relative density and has properties like heat resistance and weather resistance and it is widely used as the fillers for rubbers, coatings and cosmetics. The latter one is now used as the buffer coating of semiconductor components. As the drops of costs, it also has a good future to be used as the high temperature resisting material.
