Organic Silicon Modified Polyolefin

The modification from organic silicon on polyolefin could improve its mechanical properties and electrical properties much. The traditional polyolefin foam is too hard, and it is hard to enter foam elastomer market. However, the siloxane crosslinked 100% metallocene polyolefin foam has a better tensile strength, longer tensile rate and better softness than traditional rubber foam.

Also, silicone resin, especially its co-polymer with organic resin, could improve many properties of modified polyolefins.

 

Organic Silicon Modified SBS

SBS is an excellent thermal elastomer, it contains the thermal elasticity and solubility of PS, and it also contains the softness and resilience of PB. It could be compatible with many polymers, and it no needs to be plasticated or mixed, and it does not need to be vulcanized under high temperature and high pressure, either. The adhesive made from it has high strength, good toughness, fast solidification speed and cold resistance. It has been applied in many areas of the manufacturing of adhesives. SBS has a worse solubility and adhesion to polar matters. It is also sensitive to the effects come from light, heat and oxygens, thus it has a worse aging resistance as either. Organic silicon modification could increase the polarity of SBS, adhesion, aging resistance and heat resistance.

It is since the quantity of modification agent is increasing, the product’s thermal stability will be gradually better.

 

Reactive Organic Silicon Modified Cinnamate based UV absorbers

UV has the beneficial functions like to kill virus, make medical health, promoting Vitamin D and others. At the same time, UV also brings humans many bad effects. It is in order to avoid the negative parts, in the recent years, the researches on the UV absorbers are very active and widely studied. The common UV abosorbers are widely applied in all kinds of macromolecular materials, sunscreen cosmetics, anti-UV textile and anti-UV pigments. However, all of these belong to the micro molecular UV absorbers. This kind of UV absorbers has the following shortages:

1.      Most of them belong to UVB zone UV absorbers and has a bad photothermal absorber.

2.      When they are applied in cosmetics, they are bad in water and sweat resistance.

3.      It could be applied in polymers: It has bad compatibility, and it has many poor physical properties.

4.      When it is used in textile, it is hard to be attached and easy to be dispersed and even make skin gets allergy.

It is to overcome these weaknesses, there have been many studies taken on modifying the present UV absorbers. However, few of them are related to cinnamate based UV absorbers, especially there is lack of studies on UVA zone reactive UV absorbers.

Reactive organic silicon modified cinnamate based UV absorber could be widely used in anti-UV glass coating, anti-UVglasses, sunscreen cosmetics, anti-UV textile and relic protection. For example, the biggest application area of anti-UV glass is the car glass. At present, the unit price of 1 square meter of automotive anti-UV glass is around 300USD, the common automotive glass has a price at 30USD per square meter. However, by using this product, the common automotive glass could be granted the function of anti-UV with a manufacturing cost of only 2-3USD per square meter which shows a high economic potential and future.

 

Siloxane Modified PC

PC has the advantage of high thermal shaping temperature and good shocking strength. However, the shocking strength will be bad when be used in low-temperature product or slim product. This could be improved by the modification from siloxane.

 

Organic Silicon Modified Vistanex

The molecular chain of organic silicon modified vistanex does not contain polarity functional groups or polarity chemical keys. This grants it the chemical resistance and water resistance. At the same time, its molecular chain does not contain unsaturated C-C chemical key and tertiary hydrogen atoms. This grants it high durability, heat resistance and light resistance. Also, vistanex has lower vitrification temperature; it has extremely high air blockage and anti-water-penetration.

At present, organic silicon modified vistanex is already on sale in some nations. It has excellent comprehensive properties, especially performed in low vitrification temperature, excellent water resistance, stability of storage and some other aspects. These excellent properties could allow the resin to be specifically applied in coating, like construction sealing agent, sealing pad and sealing rings.

 

Siloxane Modified PVC

PVC has been applied widely in agricultural slim films, it is since the plasticizer is realsing, the slim film will be soon hard and crispy. If to lead siloxane or silane to modificate the PVC, it could effectively improve the extension, demoulding and wear resistance of PVC. It could also curb the release of plasticizer and to extend product life.

 

Organic Silicon Modified Cashew Phenolic Polymer

Cashew phenolic is the main component of CNSL. The CF made of cashew phenolic and formaldehyde has excellent physical and chemical properties which are similar with raw lacquers with a lower manufacturing price. It is already used in reality. However, it is since the molecule of cashew phenolic polymer contains –OH, thus it is not good to be used as anti-corrosive material. It is in order to make high-efficiency anti-corrosive pigments from natural fruits, and to be applied in anti-corrosive industry, to use DMS to modificate the CF to make CF-Si, and to use physical or chemical method like IR, UV, DMTA or TG to check the structure or properties of the product.

 

Summary

Organic silicon or silane or siloxanes could all be used to make modification in not only other resins but also some other products. They are proved to be valuable products not only they could be directly used as raw materials, but also they could be used as additive to make other products to be more useful and more effective.
