Elkem decided to invest about NOK 200 million to upgrade its carbon business unit plant in Brazil, Elkem Carbonerivados, to expand its asphalt production capacity to meet the current growing demand in the internal and external markets. The asphalt produced by the plant is not only one of the raw materials for the production of the Eikenzodberg electrode paste, but also one of the products for external sales, mainly exported to the electrolytic aluminum industry. This investment is based on Elkem's mature production line technology and involves the upgrading and transformation of existing production lines to ensure further improvement of production capacity and profitability. The new capacity will be mainly supplied to customers who have long-term cooperation with Elkem.
