German consumers' demand for pure electric vehicles rose sharply last year, accounting for almost one fifth of the total sales in Europe's largest car market. According to the data, the number of new car registrations in Germany increased by 1.1% to 2.65 million in 2022. Among them, the market share of pure electric vehicles reached 17.7%, slightly lower than 17.8% of diesel vehicles. The market share of plug-in hybrid vehicles is 13.7%, while the share of gasoline vehicles is the largest, 32.6%. Volkswagen is still the highest selling brand in Germany last year. Mercedes Benz ranked second, Audi ranked third, BMW ranked fourth, and Opel ranked fifth.
