On February 13, it was reported that Solvay was moving towards a sustainable future, introducing a new generation of rice husk ash highly dispersed white carbon black, and planned to build a new factory in Livorno, Italy to produce this product.

This new type of highly dispersed silica is produced through bio-based sodium silicate, which has the characteristics of circular economy because it recycles rice husk ash. It is expected that the production line will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2024. With the renewable energy technology of Livorno plant, Solvay's silica production is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50%, and become the silica production base with the lowest carbon dioxide emissions in Europe.

Solvay plans to gradually replace its existing "Zeosil" series of products with this rice husk ash highly dispersed silica, which will help tire manufacturers reduce their carbon footprint and achieve sustainable development goals. In addition to the tire industry, this new type of highly dispersed silica can also be used in personal care and food/feed industry.
